A solar pond pump will really help bring a new element of intrigue to your garden pond. While the pump you use does not necessarily need to be solar-powered, you may soon find that if it is solar-powered, it is easier to use and more efficient for your garden pond.
Essentially any kind of fountain that uses a pump which runs on AC power can be switched over to solar energy. Solar energy comes in the form of DC power. However, the old pump and the new pump must be compared for compatibility –the new pump needs to be able to transfer as much electricity as the older pump.
Solar pumps require just as much maintenance as any electrical pump.
This is why some people who have owned solar pond pumps for several months notice a decrease in the efficiency of the pump‘s operation. In order to restore the pump to how it was just after the purchase, all the owner really needs to do is simply open it up and then clear out any of the debris that may be caught inside. If you do this, the pump should work well after that, keeping the garden pond water circulating.
